Humans govern, supervise, validate, and direct. Machines take collection, enrichment, correlation, triage, routine investigation, repetitive remediation, verification, and documentation.

An autonomous defender must explain what it observed, why it acted, what authority permitted the action, and whether the action worked.

Observable, measurable, secure, auditable, repeatable, recoverable, maintainable, and operationally useful. Autonomous systems must also be bounded, explainable at the decision level, policy-governed, confidence-aware, and capable of escalation, verification, and safe failure.
